Cutting Expenses – Channels That Don’t Cost a Penny
Many families struggle with the cost of caregiving.
Finding the money to cover a few hours of senior care each week often seems impossible. There’s one area where families often overlook cost-cutting measures, and that’s cable television.
Average Cost of Cable
In 2016, Fortune found the average bill for cable TV in the U.S. had topped $100 per month. On top of that, many households also pay for internet. According to Forbes, the average internet bill was just over $66 a month in 2017.
Families are starting to find it is less expensive to drop cable and get free channels via a streaming device. It used to be that you needed to pay for a service like Hulu or Netflix, but some channels now are free and offer some excellent TV shows and movies. If you don’t mind watching a few ads during your shows and movies, free channels are ideal for having movies and shows to watch without having to pay.
Free Channels You’ll Love
Sony Crackle is a free station on streaming devices that are packed with TV shows and movies. If you’re looking for older shows, All in the Family and Seinfeld are options. For newer shows, options include shows like The Mob Doctor or Sequestered. For movies, you’ll find almost even genre. There are comedies like Bad News Bears and family favorites like Rango.
If you have a Roku box, the Roku Channel is free. Catch all the seasons of the comedy 3rd Rock From the Sun or Unsolved Mysteries. Grandchildren and grandparents can have a movie night with films like Stuart Little or Zookeeper. New movies are added regularly.
TubiTV is another free option. With more than 7,000 shows and movies, you’re going to find it’s hard to get bored. Movies include newer releases like Robert Redford’s All is Lost or award-winning movies like The Kite Runner. There are also documentaries, TV shows, and home improvement shows.
For the parent who likes to check in on the weather, The Weather Network is free. With this and other free channels, you will have to watch ads, but it’s better than paying hundreds every year for cable TV.
With the money saved each month, you can hire caregivers to help your parents out at home. Caregivers can help with meals, grocery shopping, scheduling appointments, and housekeeping. Talk to a senior care agency to learn more.
