5 Ways to Bring the Autumn Inside for a Senior
Senior Care in Prince William County VA
Cooler days and even cooler nights signal that Autumn is here. In the beginning, there are still some milder, warmer days mixed in with the cooler days and these are days to get outside and enjoy the Autumn weather. For some elderly parents, however, even a few moments outside is not always possible. That’s what it’s important to brings he Autumn inside for those aging parents who have a hard time getting outside.
1. Open the Windows
On those warmer days or when the air is just turning crisp, open the windows to let in the new season, along with some fresh air. This is a wonderful way to air out a room or an entire house, especially during Fall cleaning.
2. Decorate with Fall Decor
If an aging senior has some sentimental seasonal decor tucked away in the attic or a hallway closet, see if they want to bring it out. If so, use this opportunity to decorate a senior’s home with Autumn decorations. Also consider buying some new or used decorations online. There are many sites, including Amazon and EBay, where deals can be found.
3. Bake and Freeze Some Pies
Pumpkin pie and rhubarb pie are two delicious Fall pies that can be prepared and frozen for later. Pick a day to bake a couple of each and freeze them by the slice. This way the senior and their home care provider can enjoy it by the slice for a treat after lunch or dinner.
4. Do Crafts that Include Nature
A wreath made of pine cones. A picture frame made of twigs. A bowl of all-natural potpourri. These are just a few of the things that can be made with pieces of nature collected in a backyard or at a local park. Set up a crafts table with all the supplies needed and everyone’s hands will soon be busy. This is an especially fun activity to involve children in.
5. Keep the Blinds Open During the Day
On those cold, Autumn days when it is impossible to open the windows, be sure the blinds are open every morning. While this may be one of the easiest ways to let in the Autumn by viewing it’s picturesque scenes, this simple chore can be left neglected. Letting in the light and keeping a home happy and cheerful will only help to improve morale for everyone who spends time there, including neighbors, home care professionals, family and friends.
